Since the passing of Desmond’s wife Joan in 1999 the remaining family’s chief standard bearer has been Joan’s sister Lecia. It is with great sadness we have to report that she herself passed in September this year.
Proud of her sister’s crucial back-room support for her well known husband, Lecia took on the job of protecting their legacy with her typical intelligence, energy and friendliness, brooking no dissent. Her sister had contributed so much more to the stories we still love today, being a capable researcher, travel companion and staunch supporter. Lecia wouldn’t let those loyalties and memories fade.
Every year on Desmond Bagley’s birthday she would send a round-robin email reminding those of us who work to keep the author’s flame still burning, to raise a glass in his memory.
On September the 10th we now do that for Lecia too.
She is survived by her artist husband Peter.
